Are you Prepared to Speak?
If someone called tomorrow to ask you to fill in for them at a speaking engagement, what would you do? Would you be ready with a message? Whether you are speaking for free or fee there are some things you can do today to prepare for such opportunities, and be ready to speak at a moment’s notice. I have developed a 6 step process called the S.M.I.L.E.S. Formula that helps people to prepare to speak and adapt their message to the time and audience. One of the key elements of this process is developing what is known as your life message or signature message.
A Signature Message is based on a topic that you are passionate about. It serves to introduce you to a new audience and build trust and credibility. It helps them to start to understand who you are, what you are all about and why you do what you do. Your opening statements are important to capture your audience’s attention and establish trust. After outlining what they will be learning you will want to tell them about you using a story or statements including an element of vulnerability. The essence of your signature message will stay the same however how you say it may vary as you keep growing it and learning various ways to express it. You have a unique purpose on the earth and by identifying and sharing your unique message you will find yourself walking more consistently in that purpose.
Remember, being a speaker is not about saying it perfectly but more about speaking purposefully. As you function in your unique gifts and purpose you cause the people around you to grow and rise up to function in their’s.
I want to encourage you sit down and write out some of the topics that you are passionate about and would love to speak about. Even if you don’t have all the content figured out, just start making a list.
Keep letting the REAL U…..Speak Through!
