The Rule of 3

In a previous week you learned that the most important word in speaking is the word “You.” Today is about the most important number in speaking, the number 3!   Using the Rule of 3 will help you make your speech or message clearer, more enjoyable and more memorable.

To keep your audience engaged it is important to let them know what they will be picking up or receiving in the time they are investing to listen to you. So it is essential to let them know how many keys or points you are going to outline.

World Class Speakers have found that the way you package your points will affect how memorable your speech will be.   For some unknown reason, giving information in chunks of three is most effective. So if you have more than three points to give, divide the information into chunks of three.

Instead of saying “you will receive nine keys to…”  break the nine keys into three sections of three.  If you are offering a full day workshop and have 27 points, break the information into three sections.  Try it and watch what happens!

Until next week,
